Extreme Underwater
Ironing! What exactly is it? Originally pioneered by a group of
Germans, it's the act of taking an ironing board and electric iron
(minus the electricity of course) and setting it all up, somewhere
interesting on the bottom of the ocean and taking the
photos to prove
you did it. It's all a bit of harmless fun really. Of course, the
better staged the shot, either with props or location, makes for a
better
photo.
Originality is the key, and a warped sense of humour can
play a big part as well and it is now well known that a bit of cross
dressing has made the attempt more entertaining.
The Official Oceania Extreme Underwater Ironing record now stands at
70 ironers and was set by a Victorian Dive club in a
pool. This record attempt was set in front of officials from Guinness
and is now the Official World Underwater ironing Record. According to
Guinness, to claim this record, one only has to be underwater, it does
not have to be at any particular depth. According to the organisers,
they had more ironers willing to participate, but ran out of forms to
fill in.
Hey, checkout our new MEDIA
page where we are starting to collect any exposure we get in the
Australian Media.
The honour of Australia's FIRST Underwater Extreme Ironers went to
Hamster and
Dellawellawoman, it's not often you can lay claim to a
first like that! Last year we had a Extreme Underwater Ironing
Competition and there we lots of good entries, and it was hard to pick
a winner. But, for their efforts they won a $1000 gift voucher from TUSA
Australia.
Where can you do it? Anywhere it's wet! In a cave, on a wreck, amongst
a reef, in a pool, in a river - anywhere you think it will make for an
interesting
photo.
What do I need? The minimum props you need will be an iron, an
ironing board and something to actually iron. Any other props are up to you and your team mates
imagination.
Of course, whilst making these attempts, safety is the number one
priority, we do not want anyone getting hurt for the sake of a
photo.
We have listed a series of
Guidelines to help you in your preparation
and carrying out of your attempts at this new "extreme sport". We suggest you
read them before setting out on your first attempt. Apart from staying
safe, the other main rule is, "if you take it down, it comes back
out", in other words, what ever you take into the water with you, HAS
to come back out and not be left to rust on the bottom of the ocean.
Enough of this waffle, lets see the
pictures!!
Good luck, and may all your ironing be wet! |
