Hi all,

Anyone know where I might get a monofin? Can they even be bought in Oz, or will I have to get one posted from overseas? Any ideas much appreciated,

Thanks,

Mark

You could try to contact a local finswimming club (they use monofins in training and competition).

I have seen some in Sydney at Adrenalin Spearfishing, Fairlight. Haven't been over there in a little while. I assume they are still around. If you're not in Sydney they might be able to send you something.

That said, I think a number of freedivers get theirs sent in from O/S.

Good luck

Dan

Hi

It's not quite Australia but Henk Greupink makes monos in NZ - akwasports@clear.net.nz.

I brought my mono in from Specialfins in Estonia of all places. They make fantastic fins and offer the most incredible customer service I ever found in the diving industry (or any industry for that matter)....I can't recommend them highly enough.

http://www.specialfins.com/ Jyri, the sales manager is available at jyri@specialfins.com

Why would you want one? You have to use your whole body for one kick, as opposed to one leg.

If it feels good, do it but remember, admit nothing and deny everything and don't sign anything.

There is absolutely nothing I have ever done in diving that's as much fun as monofin diving. I am probably the worst monofin diver in the world but I still love using mine.

Most divers can improve their dive depths or dynamic distances with a mono as opposed to bi-fins but it takes a lot of work to get the technique sorted.

Diving with a mono is an amazing sensation, you should try it.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the helpful advice. I'm in Sydney so I'll check out the spearfishing shop in Fairlight.

Bit of background - I've been a qualified scuba diver since 16 but always loved snorkelling and going as deep as possible (between dives, oops, not clever with hindsight). I started reading a bit more about freediving recently, and have just moved to Oz from London a month ago, and figure that being this near the water, it's got to be easier to get in it! Monofins seem to be a very graceful, logical approach, and good for fitness and training of dynamic apnea.

Anyway, enough already.

Cheers,

Mark

Guys just a couple of points:

Adrenaline Spearfishing is in Wooloongabba in Brisbane

Extreme Spearfishing is in Fairlight in Sydney

Otherwise get in contact with www.auf-inc.com.au/ and click on the link for fin swimming. It should link you to ozfin the fins wimming commission arm of the AUF.

Cheers Jason
