Due to the overwhelming success of
DOUCAP 2003
and
DOUCAP 2004, we are back bigger, better and
with more of what you like to see and hear. If you went last year, you won't be disappointed
with what we have lined up for you this time around. Once again, the
team at Dive-Oz are pulling together a team of respected
professionals for a night of education & entertainment, for the
ultimate purpose of raising money for a selected charity.
This year
we have 4 guest speakers, all speaking on various marine-based
subjects, of which you can read more about below. Some of these
speakers are travelling great distances to attend and support this
evening at great personal expense, so I hope you will come on the
night and let us give you great value for your dollar and help us
raise some money for a charity in the process.
Once again, Daryl Waters from Divetek in Brisbane will be our MC for
the evening and we are very appreciative of Daryl taking the time
away from his family and his business to support the event once
again.
When Is it?
Sat, 15th October 2005, starting at 7pm sharp and doors will open
around 6pm, finishing when we are done 10pm-10:30pm so make sure you
have eaten before coming as we will be providing only Tea & Coffee
at the interval.
Where will it be held at?
Same venue as last year, the ANZ Conservation Theatre at Taronga Zoo, Mosman, Sydney, NSW.
Car parking right at the door, or busses do go here and ferries down
below, though you would have to check timetables etc.
How Much will it cost me?
$15 per head with a limited number of seats.
The Speakers:
We have 4 interesting speakers organised for this night, all whom
have not spoken at a DOUCAP before so it's all going to be new and

Peter Fields: Born in Auckland ,New Zealand, Peter Fields
has been diving since the early 1960s.After a sojourn in South
America where he dived Cape Horn and some interesting wrecks
including the German cruiser Dresden, he moved to Sydney in 1978
and managed Moray Industries for a time before becoming Scubapro
USA's Australian distributor during the 1980s.
He was, for a time, a partner in Pacific Commercial Diving
Supplies before selling out and becoming a "gentleman of
leisure". His earlier background included running a flourishing
commercial and retail diving company and working as an
instructor and commercial diver. He co-found the Sydney wreck MYOLA in 1994 with John Riley. He still dives on a regular
weekly basis and is passionate about shipwrecks.

David Strike:
Born in the
UK, David Strike’s earliest memories are of diving and divers.
Entranced by the stories told to him by his uncles - one a
commercial ‘hard hat’ diver, the other a Royal Navy Clearance
Diver - his burning ambition was always to become a diver. His
formal entry into diving began in 1961 when he joined the
British Sub-Aqua Club, followed two years later by qualifying as
a Royal Navy diver. During two shipboard postings to the Far
East (‘64 -’65 and again in ‘68 - ‘69) he had the opportunity to
dive many of the locations that have, today, become popular
diving destinations. In 1966 he was posted to Malta, on detached
duty from the Royal Navy, where he worked with Dr John Woods in
photographing and studying Thermocline characteristics.
On leaving the R.N. he completed a refresher course at the
legendary, Siebe-Gorman works before joining a consortium of
ex-military divers working on the North Sea gas and oil
platforms. During the early seventies the mortality rate among
the North Sea offshore diving community was reaching alarming
proportions. Following two ‘near misses’ - and attracted by the
prospect of warmer waters - he and his family migrated to
Australia.
In 1974 he began teaching recreational diving and – until
recently – was a former PADI, SSI Instructor Certifier and ANDI
Instructor. He continues to dive regularly and is particularly
fascinated by the advent of ‘Technical Diving’.
Today he and his wife live in Sydney where he writes about all
aspects of diving and dive travel. A regular contributor to a
number of diving publications, he is co-convenor – with Richard
Taylor – of the OZTeK Diving Technologies Conference..

Bucketheads and Bubblies. |

Member of the Navy Clearance Diver Team 1

dive teams, how their roles have changed, training, blowing stuff
up, mine clearance and
other operations etc. Will be showing off lots of their gear, plus many more bits and pieces. |
The Time Schedule
The doors will open at 6.00pm sharp, once the event has started at
7.00pm, the doors will be closed so that everyone can enjoy the
night without interruptions, you MUST be there by 7.00pm if you want
to attend the event. After each speaker has
finished, there will be a short Q&A period so you are able to ask
any question you may have.
After the first 2 speakers have had
their turn, there will be a 30 minute break where self serve tea and
coffee will be available.
We will then complete the night with the final 2 speakers.
There will be various displays in the foyer for you to view as well
from various dive gear manufacturers and other interesting displays.
Tickets Sales
We are trying to keep the cost of this night as low as possible,
like last year the cost is $15 per head with a limited number of
seats.
Cape Byron Imports, Zeagle Australia and Dacor Australia are going to generously donate
some lucky door prizes for the night as well. In order to be
eligible to win these prizes, you will need to retain your tickets
on the night. All proceeds, minus
costs will be donated to a charity, yet to be decided.
