Description: Bird Rock is one of the rocks lying in the Eastern part of the Governor Island Marine Reserve at Bicheno. It is a beautiful dive with something for everyone. Bird Rock is actually a huge boulder rising out of the water from a depth of 22+ meters. Underneath the boulder are small caves and swimthroughs that are home to an amazing variety of fish life.

In one dive at bird rock it's not uncommon to see bullseyes, morwong, boarfish, crayfish, abalone, marblefish, seahorses, wrasse, butterfly perch, trumpeter and more. Of course, being in a reserve, this is a strict no-take dive, so leave your catch-bag behind! If you do the dive with a guide, you can expect to see the curious "T-Shaped" cave. Actually a swim through, this feature has impressive sea whips under a ledge at one entrance but is notoriously difficult to find without assistance.

If you dive at Bicheno, this is one site not to be missed!
