Scuba tank boat racks

Can anyone help me source some racks to fit to a boat to hold tanks? There are a few manufactured units on US websites but I cant find any distributors here.

I am looking for something simple that can be easily fitted in a Barcrusher 560C (alloy).

Surely someone in Aus must either distribute the US ones or make something similar?

Hi Booma

Most people I know have made their own - either out of bending aluminum strips to shape halfway around the tank, forming a kind of cradle, and/or attaching webbing straps or bungees to hold the tanks in place. There is a factory somewhere in Adelaide that makes frames? out of moulded plastic that fit scuba tanks and then you still need the bungee etc to hold the tanks in place. I could try to find out the name of that factory. I vaguely remember it was in Edwardstown (South Australia).

And some dive shops sell them.

Unfortunately the waiting list is long. I will probably take delivery in late May. I ordered it about 3 weeks ago.

Its a 560C (cuddy) with 140 Suzuki 4 stroke direct from the builders.

I have been diving since the mid 60's (yes I'm an old bastard) and this is my 60th birthday present to myself.

I have had a number of boats over the years but this one is probably the closest to fit requirements I will have had. Light enough for my wife and I to handle without a 4WD, fitted out to suit diving and/or fishing, and a very good sea boat. My sons and I dive together and my wife still does as well (she started in the 70's).

Thanks to the previous poster for the info re racks, I will try and follow up. If anyone knows the factory details can you let me know?

The company in Edwardstown SA is called Technical urethanes. They made the cradle mould and i screwed them to some cutting boards...

cost I think from memory was $12.00 each,

Not sure if these would be the right thing but Sterling Leisure is selling tank holders at the moment, I bought some for my car and the boat and they work really well. send me a message and I will send the details. But once again not sure if this is what you are after

What did you end up buying? I am also looking for a system to hold cylinders upright. Probably up to 12

Peter,
if I was fitting up a boat, and looking forward to tech diving, I would re think fitting tank racks. Again, this is one of those things where it is best to go out on other boats and try their setup to see if it suits you and your boat. You will have seen the tank setup in my boat from the other posts under the "Time for a new dive boat" forum, and that still suits me as we are rec to Lo Tech divers, still using tanks. Other boats in our club are set up for rebreathers with units just tied to the sides and stages in a well in the centre of the boat. This suits the many different styles of rebreathers, and the well keeps the stages low, assisting stability of the boat.

Go diving with some of these guys and check out their setups, one is a BarCrusher.

Alan,

Thanks for the response. I was fairly certain of my requirements up until last night when I made a decision to buy a breather instead of sidemount wing so now the configuration is back up in the air. However I will still have a need to carry twins and singles as I have friends with varying certifications.

I appreciate the advice and thats what I was thinking when asking on here. Also am applying to join your dive club as I figure thats a good way to get better understanding of tech requirements, rather than relearning it all over again. Hope to meet up sometime and chat face to face.

Peter
