I love cheese & olives & all that wonderful tasty stuff too..... boo hoo as its not good for me! :(

Have been making my own Labna (drained Greek yogurt), rolling it in yummy spices & storing in olive oil with garlic & peppercorns etc. I use it instead of butter/ marg in sandwiches/ on crackers- tastes good, is simple to make & if well drained before eating has to be better for you than some things. Also make Haloumi.... but not often as it doesn't last long in this house!

Was back at my P.T. this morning continueing with the heavier weight theme. After being at work for a week and in new accomodation with nicer meals i thought i would of put on weight but i didn't. When i go back to work i really have to control myself in the quantity department, it's so easy to say that looks good i'll just have a little bit and when you sit down the plate is piled up high.

I can tell you stay out of the supermarket...

I think chillies have negative calories if you eat them straight off the bush. My puppy likes them that way - ouch. The olives that I pickle in salt water are pretty low in fat too - olive oil is good for you anyway - like avocado oil.

Not sure about the other things. I stay away from sausage generally although occasionally indulge with wunterlichs metwurst. I don't like the way it returns to haunt me.

Stayed a bit long at the dog park this morning - and next thing I know, come 9am roughly, the cricket oval is covered in little kiddies with balls and bats. Time to put dog on lead.

She was really really naughty yesterday. Ate my favourite scuba buddy's bag of plaster of paris, well the bag anyway - what's that white stuff she's sitting in and fanning with her tail. She had a go at his full length rashy/lycra suit too - though I couldn't blame her - I did tell him to move it. And dug three holes in his lawn... won't be taking her back there any time soon. Especially as his idea of correcting a dog involves belting it with a roll of newspaper. Currently she thinks rolled newspapers are good toys. Maybe if we'd given her a roll of newspaper to shred - other things may have been safe including her #1 dog lead. Sigh.

oh Bunyip, your puppy is making Indigo look positively angelica! [^]
Mind you she has shown her displeasure at not having my attention 24/7 lately (as I have been away at fires etc) by pulling my sons clothes- not mine- off the line, :( so we are working on that issue!
To keep her amused she has a selection of "inside", "outside" & "car" soft toys picked up very cheeply at the Salvos, markets etc. Her 1st every soft toy still exists tho minus 90% of his stuffing, they get changed every couple of weeks & she loves getting an old favorite back. An old sack can give them hours of fun, especially if a toy is hidden inside it!

Apologies for the lack of posting, been buzy with fires, work deployments to fire affected areas and finishing house renos.
Diet has gone to sh;t recently, when your spending hours upon hours out in the field you eat pretty much whatever is in front you. As Elly will likely confirm, when on a strike team, there are only so many Ham and Salad rolls you can eat, and don't get me started on Stamiaide!

We have no kitchen as it is being done at the moment, so we have had a lot of spag bol cooked on a camp stove on the floor (carb plus!) and drinking beers to make room in the fridge.

Back on track in March...

Yep Homer80- know exactly what you mean

And if the only water point is at the staging area, with toilets (& us females are at a slight disadvantage on the fire ground- so I take advantage of toilets when ever I can!) which happen to be next to the Sally Army Catering van with their many & varied helpers and food 24/7.......
Mmmm purple & blue drinks win hands down over the yellow & green ones...... but there's only so much of them or the clear stuff one can drink in a day- cos then one needs a toilet again if one is female..............!

Getting back to your family safe & sound is more important than watching what you eat at times like this!

Homer and Elley at times like that you can only do what you can and try not to eat too much but as said before you are probably burning more energy than usual anyway.
Another PT session yesterday, i can really notice some differences since beginning. The speed and weight has increased, recovery time has decreased and i am enjoying my exercise time.

On the weekend I had to help a diver having a bit of a panic attack on the surface in choppy seas. If i did'nt have a bit of extra fitness i wouldnt of been able to calm the situation down.
So now i remember why we have to be fit. lol [8D]

Another gruelling PT session this afternoon. Tonight i went for a 50minute walk, pushing the pram, to see my wife playing in some mixed hockey. Recovery time is showing a definite improvement taking less breaks during my session.

Hi all

Can't work out what is going on with my weight at the moment. Seems to have leveled off about 3kg more than I want - but a lot of my clothes are still loose. The size 14 stuff is falling off but the size 12 or 13 stuff is still too tight to be comfortable - brand variation I guess.

Meals are a bit haphazard depending on how much I want to cook something. Thinking green curry chicken with lots of zuccini from the garden - cos I'm bored with zuccini pasta surprise and even the zuccini slice... hmm, anyway - it's too hot to cook (again).

And I wish I had a decent rice cooker - having trashed and returned 2 or was it 3 of the kambrook small rice cookers and having no use for a 10 cup rice cooker. WTF - there's usually only me and even if I had a dinner party I wouldn't need to cook more than 3 cups of rice for 6 or so people. Sheesh.

I'm crap at cooking the stuff in the microwave - it just boils over making an awkward clean up job.

Am still doing the doggy walk every morning though we were both a bit slack this morning, and hockey on Tuesday nights. Did a lot of running last Tuesday - which is good cos I've got a whole weekend of it at Pt Lincoln starting 7th March. Sadly no room on the bus or time for dive gear.

Big kudos to all you fire fighters. I'm sure that must burn a tonne of weight - even just schlepping around in the heavy duty clothes and boots. Maybe I should send some zuccini slice your way... though I think I'd be living on frozen gatoraid, and wearing the ice jacket I made for summer hockey. I've thought about joining but I don't do well when I'm hot. Complete brain fade and lethagy. Must clean gutters ASAP though - finally got a new ladder to do it with.

Bunyip try cutting back on the carbs a little and up the protein instead. I use the new CSIRO Healthy Heart program and have lost 5 kilos since November.
Also like short burst of high intenity interval training so much more interesting than staying on a treadmill for 30 mins. Give it a go.
good luck

Went for a walk up the main street of Kal for over an hour tonight, wimped out on doing some running on the oval as we had a fair bit of rain today.

Hi Alien

Thanks for the tip. The kind of running involved with chasing the dog on the oval or a hockey ball... is very short intensity... I just need to do more of it.

Hmm, more protein less carbs - might work. At least it would be quite different to the diet I mostly have now. Can't be stuffed getting meat out the freezer to cook it most nights so dinner is frequently vegie surprise of some sort. I do like steak though.

Hockey Pt Lincoln, this weekend. Two games in one day but really short halves by the look of it so I should be ok, depending how much running the opposition is up for. I had a couple of good runs last night in two hockey games that have longer halves but smaller field.

Chased the dog around the oval a little bit this morning but she was much more interested in cadging goodos from one of the regulars who is a bit of a sucker for a sweet faced puppy.
