That can't be right. I'm eating the same food and getting more exercise and I'm not getting any lighter at all [:(!] much less seeing significant improvement.

Sometimes we don't eat enough of the right food (healthy & nutricious)and our bodies go into starvation mode saving the food we do eat "just in case" there is no more coming.

Or the extra exercise in turning fat to muscle which weighs more, so on the scales we are still the same, but our clothes aren't feeling so tight!

Pete, what is the first thing your instructor told you on your o/w course regarding fitness?

DIVING DOES NOT MAKE YOU FIT

you have to be fit for diving :)

Its more like diving makes you fat- biscuits or hot dogs on the boat or hot salty chips after a dive as they taste so good. Then to wash them down some beer or bourbon........ that must be why I've had to borrow a bigger stretchy wet suit? [:0]

Nothing to do with what I eat any other time of course! [:-}]

P.T. session this morning and a 1/2 an hour walk this afternoon. Had a big shock yesterday morning when i weighed myself and the scales said 94kgs but for some reason they were not reading correctly and i put on 4kg after re weighing myself to make 98kg with no real change in 2 weeks.

Are the scales digital??? Found mine would do strange readings long before the Battery Change indicator ever flashed. After 3 lots of batteries in 6 months ended up going back to my good really old reliable non digital ones.

A friend with knee problems who suffered greatly after walking Hell Fire Pass has realised she will not be able to do the Kakoda Trail as she has always wanted to do. She was told about the 1000 Steps Kakaoda memorial walk in Melbournes Dandenong Ranges and has enlisted my help in training and building her fitness level to enable her to do it by September. Really doubt I could do it at the moment at this weight and low fitness level anyway, so we will both be getting fitter!
Tomorrow I'll be checking out areas in Ballarat with steps and hills for our training grounds. :)

Didn't find the steps I was looking for but had a good walk along the creek. Dogs first experience with running water- the look on her face was priceless, she got out & jumped in where it wasn't following!

Weigh in tonight & not looking forward to it! 2 out of 3 birthdays out of the way, with lots of overindulging of food and drink. [:I]

Hi Elleym

My dog had two strange experiences while I was on holidays with her.

Visited a friend with a backyard pool which had a floaty cover over it. Thought dog won't go on that / in pool? Wrong. However Frosty dog did not like "walking on water" and ran right across the pool and out the other side with no ill effect and did not do it again. This was good.

Later - she tried to take a short cut across the top of a friend's rather stagnant dam. And found out the hard way that there's some water you can walk on and some you can't. I had to give her a cold bath with the hose after that to get the pong off. Didn't let her off the lead in sight of any dam again.

So far she's gaining lots of kg and is now quite hard to lift in and out of the car and it's getting harder to win arguments about who gets to sleep in my bed. So far, I win. However she may find out if I lose, she gets to sleep outside my bedroom. She now weighs more than your average scuba tank.

So far - I can fit comfortably into the size 13 jeans most days which is good. I've even started to need a belt. Weight is pretty steady which I guess is also good though I'd like to shave one more size down - so I can fit nicely into the old size 12 stretchies without doing the muffin top thing.

Hmm, maybe that's why the new wetsuit jacket is too cold. Then again, I think it's a slight design problem around the neck. Not sure what to do about it. Ie I swim looking foward, which if I'm standing in a fitting room, is equivalent to looking at the ceiling. Jacket does not cover throat when I'm looking at the ceiling and lets a large amount of water in. Not comfy.

Research shows that a slow steady loss of up to 500g or so a week is better for us and we are more likely to keep it off than when we yo yo and loose 2.9kg one week & put 2.6kg on the next!
So keep plugging away there girl- your doing it right!

I had a .3 gain- am not surprised after all the birthdays, big lunches, drinks & coffee & cake!

Been working lots of hours all over the state recently, while I was away my fitness assessment came up. I am 8kgs lighter than this time in 2007. So that was a positive, was still coughing and spluttering at the end of the run, then again I've never been much of a runner.

The month as a whole is going well, I say that as I am digging into a Monte Carlo...

Sheesh Elleym

I have 300ml cups of coffee - one ml of water weighs 1gm - so that would be a 300gm or .3kg weight gain for me.

And then the resulting visit to the dunny would be a weight loss...

So I ignore weight gains or losses of less than 2kg and pay more attention to how my clothes are fitting and an *average* weight over a month or so. And it helps if you weigh always at the same time of day eg first thing in the morning before breakfast but after dunny visit ie as empty as possible. Checking my weight over a whole day is entertaining but not very reliable as far as overall trends go.

I'm surprised it was only .3 after all I ate and drank, and the toilet thing didn't work!!!!! Clothes I don't wear often (Fire Brigade uniform) are tight, everyday clothes are ok as unfortunatly they were up-sized a while ago!

I actually find I'm am better weighing myself every day in the morning after I shower and am trying to get back into that habit as I slacked of when I was made redundant. Its contrary to what a lot of health experts say but it works for me! Hard to do when at my boyfriends though as his scales don't work

Hi Elleym

Hmm, boyfriend - what strange creature is that? Never mind.

Dodgy scales? Well I guess that makes an idea for a present for him. If you can't afford easily then drop hints with his rellies or other close friends.

I lived for years without scales and only got some last year so that I could weigh my luggage for going O/S. They're supposed to be accurate to .1 of a kg, and I think that's probably fair. They're digital and zero when you tap them.

Alternately you can stand on them, stay on them, and they zero with you on them - ooh look I weigh nothing. And then you pick up the dog or the luggage and see how much that weighs.

Only problem it does reveal your real weight when you get off - as a negative number. sunbeam ps4200 if that helps. about $50 from good guys.

In other news - I'd really prefer my TP was "Lab repellent" not "Lab Tested" - ah well. At least Puppy didn't carry the whole roll out into the back yard this time.

Hi :) It's starting to get cold in Adelaide, soon it will be bloody freezing. When it's cold and wet my family like to go bush walking ,we rug up and pack a rucksack with food and a thermos full of hot Chocolate.
My sixteen year old daughter is too cool for bush walking these days so she stays home and chats on the computer, but my Partner, my 6 yr old daughter and I love it. Even when it pours with rain, or someone slips off a rock in the middle of a creek and gets soaking wet [:-}] great fun, great memories good exercise. :D [8D]

thankfully Almitychild, who turns 16 next week [:0] (where did the years go!!) still likes us old foggies and doesnt mind hanging out with anyone over 40.

problem is those boys that tend to follow her, she even has her own personal chauffeur these days in the form of a nice young man (even if he is a short ****) who will be met with a horrible violent death if he doesnt keep his hands to himself - of course i remind him of this every time i see him (my actual words to him were i can put your body in places noone will ever find it [8D])

no exercise for me today... friday is my lazy day after a hetic week for both hubby and myself

Raked leaves this morning ( I love my great big trees shade in summer and all its leaves this time of year) then took Mr 22 out for lunch to our fave Indian/ Italian/ Thai restaurant to celebrate. We do so love the food there! Waiting for drizzel to stop then will walk the dog for an an hour I hope.

Some kids are a complete pain during their teenage years (unlike us, we were all so perfect of course!) but they mellow a bit around 18- 20 and get back into things they used to do like CFA etc. They also actually want to go out for meals with you, and enjoy real food and a good red :D
