The Australasian Institute for Maritime Archaeology (AIMA) will be running a two-day introduction to maritime archaeology course from 3 to 4 August 2017 at the International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour, Sydney in conjunction with Australia International Dive Expo (AIDE) and Sydney International Boat Show (SIBS).

The course will include classroom work and guest lectures. This Part 1 course focuses on non-disturbance surveys of shipwreck sites. The course structure includes:

Archaeological principles
Archaeological sciences
Materials and conservation
Ship construction
Archaeological Surveying
Search techniques
Site position-fixing
Remote sensing
State/Territory and Commonwealth legislation

This is an internationally recognised course that has been designed and developed by archaeologists and recreational divers working together, and has proven to be an effective way to learn essential maritime archaeological skills.
