iDry/iFlex 7mm wetsuit. Would it be warm enought?

Hi there

I am not a very experienced diver and I am getting ready for my first dive in Australia (I have dived in South America and Central America before).
I am trying to buy a wetsuit that keeps me warm and also that is comfy and fits well.
I've tried already 4 different brands and at least 8 different styles of wetsuits and the best fit for me at the moment is the iFlex 7mm but I wonder if it will keep me warm? (I am slim but have wide hips so almost always end up with a wetsuit that fits really good re hips but is too big re arms and shoulders  )
I get cold really easy. In tropical water I normally wear a 3mm wetsuit and if I feel too cold I wear Lavacore pants and long-sleeve shirt under.

Has anyone used the iFlex or iDry before? If so, how good is keeping you warm?
Opinions?

Thank you in advance for your help :)

Toro,
Australia has dive locations varying in temperature from 7 degrees to 30 degrees C! You need to say where you are planning to dive, and if you wish to dive through winter.

Thanks Alan.

Sorry I was not specific enough, my first dive will be at Montague Island NSW, then I will try and do some recommended dives around Sydney :) .

As I said I am not very experienced and do not know if diving through winter will be something I can cope with.

Thanks again for your help.

No worries Ingrid!
I can't speak for Sydney as it has a different water temperature range to Melbourne where I dive. I'm guessing Montague is currently a bit over 20 degrees, and I would be happy in a 5mm, but if you feel the cold, a 7mm should keep you toasty. I would imagine, for most people, it would also serve for close to 9 months in Sydney as well, and of course, you could add under or over suits.

I haven't used an I flex, so will leave it to others to comment on them, but I dive a Cressi Atlantis 7mm and find it very comfortable for most of the year in Melbourne (except for the crappy 'T' zip!)

Enjoy the seals at Montague!

Hi Ingrid
I use a iFlex 7mm in Melbourne until about April then use a drysuit, below 18c, so would assume with a good hood, booties and gloves it will be warm enough, take the Lavacore with you in case you get chilly on a second dive. I find the iFlex good, have a 5mm and 7mm, very flexible so they fit my ageing body :-) .

Thanks Alan, I tried the Atlantis and must admit that fitted well, but to be honest my neck is still recovering lol. I was in so much pain after trying it that I am not sure if I want to go through that again hahaha (getting my head in the suit was bad, but getting it out was a nightmare). It is a very warm and flexible wetsuit but I am a chicken when it comes to pain :( .

I cannot wait to see the seals! Never saw one before when diving :cheer:

The stingrays can be pretty good too!

Hi Alan

I did not see any stingrays, I had a wonderful experience though.

I hope you don't mind if I ask you, I really struggled to descend, I normally wear 4k and had to get 10 on my belt to be able to sink. I had a brand-new 7mm wet-suit I know but still wonder if that was the reason.

Also Alan, when you did your dive there, how did you find the current? I also struggled trying to stay where I wanted lol :S

Thanks in advance for your help :)

7mm should be fine around Sydney waters, however a suit needs to fit your body shape.

Sorry for the late reply, I was in South Australia last week and hate posting from my phone! Great video, the seals are really good, even if they zoom past! My suit tends to hold a bit of air, as the seals are very good, so I intentionally get as much as I can out as I descend. Not knowing how your kit is configured, but 10 kg seems about right for 7mm suit. New suits and kits can take a bit to sort weighting out. The current in that area can be all over the place, and we had a bit last time we were there, and is why we dived mostly at the same site. There is no way to predict the current there so you just have to make the best of it.

Good to know, thank you Alan for all your help, it is really important to heard the opinions of experienced divers, specially when you are a beginner :).
