INFORMATION "Carleton Chinner (aka Sunfish)"
I guess diving is in the family blood. I’m the third generation of diving Chinner, with my Grandfather being one of the first to dive the area around the Yorke peninsula, back in the dark ages of homemade fins and masks. I was sent to darkest Africa at a very young age and grew up snorkelling in a seaside town called Port Elizabeth. One thing lead to another and I ended up learning to dive in an area where 3m visibility is cause to phone all your dive buddies and head out into the bay.
Not that bad visibility is necessarily a terrible thing, I acquired a keen interest in sea life and its behaviour, by being forced to pay attention to the small things. A habit that has been useful since I took up underwater photography.
Underwater photography is a new hobby. I stepped across to the dark side two years ago, by renting a camera while on the Barrier Reef. Since then I’ve been hooked and my wife, Annalie and I spend many happy hours hunting for photo opportunities.
